Spanish Papers: Ronaldo handed rest by Zidane after exit talkJanuary 16, 2018
Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a rest by Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane after heightened reports that he wants to leave the club this summer.
The Portuguese international has reportedly told the Spanish club that he wants to return to Manchester United this coming summer.
His claimed decision comes after a poor season for Madrid, which has seen him score just four league goals in 14 games and struggle to help the reigning La Liga champions keep pace with league leaders Barcelona, second placed Atleti and third placed Valencia.
Madrid are now facing a tricky couple of weeks, which include a two-legged Copa del Rey clash with Leganes and Champions League games against Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain.
Seemingly out of the title race, Ronaldo has now been handed a rest for the mid-week game against Leganes, with boss Zidane looking forward to the weekend fixture against Deportivo La Coruna.
AS have focused more on Madrid’s performances of late, rather than the poor form of Ronaldo, looking deeper into Madrid’s poor second half displays, where they have lost the majority of their games.
Further to this, they look at Real Betis’s victory over Leganes, which saw the return of Ruben Castro.
Over in Catalonia, Barcelona are heavily praised and why not? Everything seems to be going right for Ernesto Valverde at the Camp Nou. However, one shortfall is another injury to Ousmane Dembele, who will face three weeks out injured.
