Cristiano Ronaldo is using former club Manchester United to gain ‘respect’ and ‘money’ at Real Madrid, a source has told La Liga News UK.
After winning an impressive five trophies with Madrid this year and the Ballon d’Or title, Ronaldo should be enjoying life in the Spanish capital.
However, league form and a dip in his own personal form has seen an exit look increasingly more likely with reports now claiming he has told Madrid, team-mates and close friends that his time at the Santiago Bernabeu will come to an end in the summer.
Various reports in Spanish press have emerged since the 3-0 El Clasico defeat to Barcelona in December, whilst further claims have followed after a dismal 1-0 home defeat to Villarreal on Saturday afternoon.
It is now being reported that a Ronaldo’s representatives have told Madrid that he wants to leave the club and move back to Manchester.
But, a source close to the Spanish club claims that they believe the forward is doing all he can to gain ‘respect’ and more ‘money’ at the club.
That claim comes after Ronaldo felt he was not backed by the club over tax problems last year and that the likes of La Liga rival Lionel Messi, has been handed a new deal at Barcelona.
“Ronaldo wants to feel more respect at the Bernabeu, but he mostly wants a new contract at the club. This happens on occasion, players want better deals to match others, and use their former club or interested clubs to get what they want,” said our source.
Various English sources pick up the rumours, prompting speculation that Madrid could now push forward with moves for linked players, such as Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane PSG duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
Ronaldo has scored just four league goals this season, and a return to former club Man United has long been discussed with Jose Mourinho said to be extremely keen on reuniting with the Portuguese star.
