Real Madrid face decisive days on Kepa dealJanuary 17, 2018
Real Madrid will make a decision over Athletic Club keeper Kepa in the coming days, La Liga News UK understands.
Long have Madrid been keen admirers of the young Basque stopper and it has been reported that a deal is being discussed by all parties.
Spanish daily Marca reported that a deal had been agreed earlier in December, which they said would be formally completed following Madrid’s participation in the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.
However, that claim failed to materialise, meaning negotiations have now begun over a potential January move or a free transfer in the summer.
And, according to further reports, it seems Kepa has already signed a contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, said to be a six year deal, also undergoing a medical shortly after the turn of the year at the Bernabeu.
Madrid are now said to be making a final decision on whether they will pay the youngster’s 20m euro release fee or wait and sign him for free in June.
Whilst current number one Keylor Navas has been performing well; Madrid officials have been interested in a number of options who they feel can provide a long-term option.
Man United’s David De Gea was red hot favourite to become the long term replacement for Iker Casillas, who left the club two summers back for Porto, but Spain’s number one has now seemingly been demoted as the Spanish club’s preferred choice.
With Madrid’s desire to sign a new first choice keeper developing fast, it would see the new signing move straight into the starting eleven, leaving Navas’ future in doubt.
Current back-up keeper Kiko Casilla has been told he can leave the club in January.
