Real Madrid want to sell Cristiano Ronaldo and swap him with former Barcelona man Neymar, according to former club president Ramon Calderon.
After winning an impressive five trophies with Madrid this year and the Ballon d’Or title, Ronaldo should be enjoying life in the Spanish capital.
However, league form and a dip in his own personal form has seen an exit look increasingly more likely with reports now claiming he has told Madrid, team-mates and close friends that his time at the Santiago Bernabeu will come to an end in the summer.
Various reports in Spanish press have emerged since the 3-0 El Clasico defeat to Barcelona in December, whilst further claims have followed after a dismal 1-0 home defeat to Villarreal on Saturday afternoon.
It is now being reported that a Ronaldo’s representatives have told Madrid that he wants to leave the club and move back to Manchester.
And, with Madrid seemingly open to selling, it is understood that attention has now shifted to PSG forward Neymar. – something Calderon believes the Spanish club are extremely interested in pursuing.
“This (being linked to players) is a clever strategy the club will continue to pursue to divert attention away from the team’s current problems on the pitch,” Calderon told Le Parisien.
“They want to sell dreams to the supporters and focus their attention on this, but yes it is a move I could see as being possible.
“I believe they have deliberately leaked the possible arrival of Neymar and possible departure of Cristiano to the newspapers, and then will gauge the public’s reaction.
“They want to know what the fans will think and then make decisions based on this.”
Florentino Perez has seen his bigger stars at the Santiago Bernabeu fail this season and question marks have begun over the future of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and even,Ronaldo, who has scored just four times in the league this season.
Reports in Spain and France claim Neymar’s father has met with Perez to discuss various things, in particular the role and potential of a move for his son.
Whilst Neymar is fully committed to PSG this season – many feel he was similarly committed to Barcelona, given his relationship with Leo Messi and Luis Suarez.
