Joao Cancelo will not be returning to Valencia this month, according to boss Marcelino.
The Portuguese international left the Mestalla last summer after a fall out with the club’s fans, following links to La Liga side Barcelona and his open desire to join the Catalan side.
A move to the Camp Nou failed to materialise and therefore, a move to Inter Milan on loan was agreed.
However, the defender has failed to gain sufficient playing time for the current Serie A league leaders, and he has asked parent club Valencia to cut short his loan deal.
Any change of that happening did come with problems though, as Geoffrey Kondogbia is on loan with Los Che and is directly linked to Cancelo’s loan agreement.
Kondogbia has been highly impressing for Marcelino’s side, meaning neither side are interested in ending the youngsters deal this month, despite agent Jorge Mendes’ best efforts.
“If the Inter Coach [Luciano Spalletti] has said he stays, we can rule out his presence here in Valencia,” Marcelino told a press conference.
“There is no chance he could play with us.”
Cancelo have featured just six times in the league for Inter, plus twice in the cup and he will be hoping to gain more playing time with the World Cup in Russia this summer fast approaching.#
Valencia are impressing this season and currently sit third in the La Liga standings, one place above Real Madrid.
