Laporte set for Man City ‘any minute’January 29, 2018
Athletic Club defender Aymeric Laporte will seal his move to Manchester City on Monday, according to reports.
City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to improve his defensive options ahead of what looks to be a successful Premier League title and potential Champions League run.
The English side sit comfortably at the top of the La Liga standings but Guardiola wants to add strength and depth in his options, having relied heavily on John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi this season so far.
It is understood that after tentative talks and contact between the two clubs over Laporte’s transfer fee; the English club are just moments away from submitting an offer which would trigger his release clause, set in the region of £60m.
Diario AS and Cadena COPE are reporting that City will activate that amount and pay a further £5m for the rights of the player.
Athletic Club have been busy of late, renewing a number of players’ contracts, including young keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was close to joining Real Madrid earlier this month after having a medical.
Laporte’s potential arrival could seal the futures of both Eliaquim Mangala and Vincent Kompany, who have both struggled on occasion this season.
Guardiola has long been interested in Laporte, having failed to make a solid move during his team at Bayern Munich and previously, with Barcelona
