Espanyol have officially announced that they have accepted an offer to from Villarreal to sign defensive midfielder Javi Fuego.
Fuego signed for Espanyol in 2016 from Villarreal’s neighbours, Valencia, and has made 51 appearances for the Catalans during his 18 months with the club.
The 34 year old player will be presented as a Villarreal player later this afternoon and will be joining his new teammates in training under the orders of coach Javier Calleja who will be pleased to have gotten the midfielder that will help him rotate and rest his star defensive midfielders Bruno Soriano and Rodri.
The event that the player will be presented in is expected to start at 12:30 PM in Spain and will be headed by Villarreal’s CEO Fernando Roig who will be welcoming the player into his new club.
Fuego is an experienced midfielder and has made 372 official appearances since starting his career with Sporting Gijón in 2002 and has managed 14 goals and 4 assists throughout his career. Moreover, 2 of Fuego’s 14 career goals came against his new club when he netted Valencia’s only 2 goals in the 2-1 over Villarreal in 2014.
Fuego who is most known for his times with Espanyol, Valencia and Rayo Vallecano has also played for Sporting Gijón, Levante, Recreativo.
