Sevilla have missed out on the chance to sign Daniel Sturridge, who has opted for a six month loan deal with West Bromwich Albion.
Reports in England claimed the 28-year-old, who has struggled to get game time at Anfield was keen on a move to Spain with Vincenzo Montella’s side, however, he has moved to WBA instead in a bid to get in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in Russia later this summer.
Although Sturridge has only scored five league goals in the last two seasons, he was vital for Liverpool during their fight for the Premier League title in 2013/14, netting 21 times in the English top flight..
The ex-Chelsea attacker has proven himself in front of goal with 48 goals in 98 Premier League games for Liverpool, but that has come across six seasons on Merseyside. Sturridge has had 14 separate injuries since his £12 million move north, missing over 80 matches.
In that time, Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino and Senegalese star Sadio Mane have joined the club, along with this year’s signing Mohamed Salah, all becoming invaluable to the Reds, while Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke are also ahead of Sturridge in the pecking order.
His move to WBA sees him play alongside former Malaga man Saloman Rondon.
