Semedo in further trouble after firearm claim

Villarreal defender Ruben Semedo has in further trouble after being investigated for possessing a firearm.

The Portugal international is under further claims that he hit a man over the head with a bottle in October at a well known night club in the city.

Semedo joined the Spanish club last summer from Sporting Lisbon but has found playing time hard to come by, featuring in just four league games, spending more time on the sidelines through injury.

The fresh claims come after an incident in November which was over two separate weekends in Valencia when the youngster was ruled out with a thigh problem.

The 23-year-old was arrested but released by Valencian police, who took fingerprints and mugshots in connection with possessing a firearm.

The firearm in question is yet to be found, according to reports in Las Provincias, but several complaints about the defender and his behaviour around Villarreal is said to have seen his club question his future.

Semedo began his career with Sporting, before spells with Spanish lower league side Reus on loan and Vitoria Setubal.

Having developed through Sporting’s ranks, the defender made his international debut for the Portuguese U21 side in 2016, but he is yet to receive a full senior call up.

Prior to this investigation, Semedo has been relatively professional on and off the field, having three career red cards, which came for Sporting and twice for Vitoria.
