Real Sociedad have made moves to sign Hector Moreno as a replacement for Inigo Martinez, who joined Athletic Club on Tuesday.
Shock in Basque country on Tuesday saw Martinez switch clubs and join Athletic Club after they sold Aymeric Laporte to Manchester City earlier in the week.
Martinez’s move from La Real leaves them with a gaping hole in their defensive back-line but the club have moved quickly to replace the Spanish international, making a tentative call to Italian side Roma about the availability of Hector Moreno.
The Mexican defender is seemingly available in January after failing to gain regular playing time in Serie A, starting just two games since his arrival in the summer from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
The 29-year-old is no stranger to Spanish football, having played 135 times for Espanyol and impressing during a four-year spell.
His ability and impression during his time with the Catalan club, has not been forgotten interest from Spain has been rife since the turn of the year with Real Betis keen on bringing him to Seville.
Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy report the claims, picking up on the fact that the defender wants first team football in preparation for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
