Real Sociedad will host Deportivo De La Coruna at the Anoeta on Friday evening, with Sociedad looking to grab their first win since the winter break. Meanwhile, Deportivo who last week threw away a two-goal lead against Levante, are in desperate need of a return to form.
Sociedad players unlikely to feature include the likes of Ruben Pardo, David Zurutuza, and Carlos Martinez. It’s also the first fixture that Sociedad will be without Inigo Martinez, following his sale to Basque neighbours Athletic Bilbao.
The list of absentees for Deportivo is a long one. Florin Andone and Celso Borges will both miss out through suspension. Meanwhile, due to injuries, Sidnei, Pedro Mosquera, Bruno Gama and Javier Bicho are unlikely to feature.
Both teams come into this game in poor form. Sociedad is winless since beating Sevilla on the 20th of December. For Deportivo, you have to go back to December 9th for their last recorded win against Leganes.
Sociedad won the last two encounters between the sides after Deportivo smashed them 5-1 in the 2016/17 season.
Tonight though, Sociedad will be without an integral part of their defense. Although previously the Anoeta could’ve been considered as a fortress, Sociedad is fragile and could be attacked by the likes of the always moving Lucas Perez. However, Sociedad can and certainly will be a threat through the likes of former Southampton player Juanmi and powerful forward Willian José. As well as the usual suspects of Mikel Oyarzabal, Asier Illaramendi and Sergio Canales pulling the strings.
I think tonight Sociedad will shake off their malaise and grab all three points.
