Eibar climbed to seventh place in La Liga, just one point behind Sevilla, after hammering their Andalucian visitors 5-1 at the Ipurua in the early kick off on Saturday.
The hosts needed less than a minute to open the scoring. Kike ran onto Anaitz Arbilla’s clearance and continued into the box on the left hand side before unleashing a rocket of a shot which flew past Sergio Rico into the net via the underside of the bar.
Los Armeros then doubled their lead with yet another fantastic goal, this time through Fabian Orellana. Takashi Inui dribbled into the box before flicking the ball back to Jose Angel who turned on the spot then directed a lovely cross to the back post with the outside of his left foot where Orellana was on hand to fire the ball high into the net.
Sevilla were stunned but just five minutes later they were handed a way back into the game when they were awarded a penalty. New signing Sandro tried to flick the ball past Dani Garcia in the box but the Eibar man was alleged to have handled the ball, despite being no more than a yard away, and Pablo Sarabia sent the spot kick past Marko Dmitrovic.
Eibar were instantly back on the attack however and only a tremendous close range save from Rico denied Kike with Inui seeing his rebound hit the post on its way behind.
On 32 minutes though they would make it 3-1. Ivan Ramis rushing through the crowd to head home Angel’s corner to the delight of the majority of the 5, 311 fans in attendance.
It was four on the hour mark when Clement Lenglet’s pass across defence was cut out by Orellana who reacted quickest to round Rico and stroke home.
Sevilla though didn’t give up and had a great chance two minutes later, Pablo Sarabia somehow hitting the post from ten yards out after Sandro’s pass.
The icing on the cake came six minutes from time when Arbilla stepped up to take a free kick after Jesus Navas’ handball to bend the ball over the wall and into the net despite Rico getting a touch on it.
Eibar’s win sees them overtake Celta Vigo into seventh ahead of the Galician’s game at Alaves on Saturday evening, now just one point behind Sevilla whose poor run of form continues.
