Real Sociedad kicked off Jornada 22 in La Liga in style on Friday night as they stuck five past a poor Deportivo La Coruna.
La Real went in front on 32 minutes, Igor Zubeldia finding Juanmi with a perfectly timed pass through the defence with the forward then squaring the ball to the unmarked Willian Jose to knock the ball into the back of the net.
Deportivo were practically non-existent on the night and fell two behind just past the hour mark. Asier Illarramendi had a free kick about 35 yards from goal with everyone expecting a cross but the midfielder went for goal and caught Ruben Martinez by surprise with the ball nestling in the corner of the keeper’s net.
The hosts put the game beyond any doubt with 15 minutes left as Sergio Canales rounded Martinez to roll home number three after Jose’s pass.
Canales then turned provider as they made it 4-0, his corner finding Aritz Elustondo who smacked the ball into the net via the post at the second time of asking.
Illarramendi played substitute Imanol Agirretxe through on goal and although his lob was kept out by Martinez, Illarramendi had continued his run into the box and was on hand to knock home the rebound to round off a wonderful night for Real Sociedad who move up to 14th, Depor remain in the relegation zone.
