The Spanish Papers review is dominated by Barcelona’s Gerard Pique, whose header in the Catalan derby saw his side remain the only unbeaten team left in the major European leagues.
Pique is Barcelona through and through and whilst some of his actions are up for debate, the general feeling after his leveller on Sunday and his celebration were that of revenge for the centre-back.
Issued with various insults during the game over his relationship with singer Shakira, accompanied with claimed racial slurs from Espanyol fans to central defensive partner Samuel Umtiti – the Spanish international silenced the crowd by putting his finger to his mouth.
Pique has justified his actions, but Espanyol boss Quique Sanchez Flores believes the defender should not silence the crowd like that.
Barca, who have now remained unbeaten throughout the league season – sit pretty at the top of the table, although Atletico Madrid did gain two points on them after beating Valencia.
Real Madrid, however, are in big trouble, drawing with Levante on Saturday to put more pressure on Zinedine Zidane.
No focus is on the Santiago Bernabeu outfit though, with all three main Spanish papers focusing on Pique’s goal and actions.
