Everton failed in bid to sign Mario HermosoFebruary 7, 2018
Everton failed to make a deadline day signing of Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso, according to various reports.
The 22-year-old defender has had a relatively good season for La Liga side and has quickly gained interest from a number of European clubs.
Having arrived at the Cornella El Prat last summer from Real Madrid in a €400k deal, interest is expected to see him leave the club this summer, despite a release clause in the region of €40m.
Diario Sport report that Premier League side Everton failed with a last minute move last month, seeing a bid of €8m – rejected for the defender by the Spanish club.
Various other bids for the defender are expected in the coming months, whilst Madrid have a buyback clause installed in his contract.
Hermoso has started 18 league games for Los Periquitos this season.
Failed Hermoso bid; Deulofeu anger
Meanwhile, sticking with Everton – fans have been left bemused after Gerard Deulofeu produced a match winning performance against Chelsea on Monday evening.
After failing to make the grade back at boy-hood club Barcelona, Deulofeu was quickly sold to Watford in January to gain sufficient playing time.
His return to England comes after just six months at Barca following a return from Premier League side Everton.
Considered a flop at Goodison Park during his time at the club, Everton fans have now retracted those comments and blamed former boss Ronald Koeman for his poor performances.
Their change in opinion comes after the Spanish international produced a 10 out of 10 performance against champions Chelsea, scoring in a 4-1 win for his new side.
