Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois has discussed reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid, saying his ‘heart’ is in the Spanish capital.
Madrid president Florentino Perez is looking at a number of options to replace current number one Keylor Navas, and is keen on the former Atletico Madrid keeper as a back-up to David De Gea of Manchester United, should interest fail in the Spanish number one.
Matched with interest; it is also reported that Juventus and Atleti are keen on Belgian Courtois – with the latter wanting to bring him back to the club.
The 25 year old was vocal last summer about his desire for a new contract with the London side but has been unable to reach an agreement, and it is now reported that he is eyeing a move back to Madrid with Real.
The Belgian’s two children live in Spain’s capital and he has opened up about desire to eventually move back to the city.
“It’s well known my personal situation is connected to the city of Madrid. My two children live there with their mother,” Courtois told Belgian publication Sport Foot Magazine.
“As a situation, it’s not always easy. My heart is in Madrid; it’s logical and understandable. One day I’ll return to Madrid. I love Spain, I loved that city, I spent three wonderful years there.
“If Real are interested, they have to contact Chelsea. We’ll see, but they have never done so. If they’re really interested, my personal situation could affect it. The family aspect is priceless.
“But I repeat, for the moment I‘m busy talking to Chelsea to extend – we agreed to meet again in February because the club had more urgent issues to deal with in January.
“There’s no rush, I am under contract until 2019. Normally, there’s no problem and I will extend.
“I am happy here and I can see we’re heading in the right direction, looking to win many more titles. The signs are positive. Their desire to also tie Eden Hazard down reassures me too.”
Whilst Navas has been impressing at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, it is expected that Perez will make a number of changes to the personnel at the club next summer.
The likes of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are also being linked with moves away.
