Athletic Club continued to struggle as they were held at home to Las Palmas on Friday night at San Mames.
The Basque hosts have struggled this season to find consistency and coach Jose Luis Ziganda will now feel even more pressure after a dismal performance against Paco Jemez’s men, who frustrated the San Mames crowd.
Athletic had the better chances in the first half, with Inaki Williams proving to be their best outlet and the young winger almost opened the scoring late in the first period after a cross from Aritz Aduriz.
Aduriz then had a similar chance after a cross from Williams, but the veteran striker was unable to direct his header – goal-bound.
The home side also saw a superb effort from Yeray Alvarez ruled out for an offside, although television replays seemed to show the defender in an onside position.
At the other end, Kepa Arrizabalaga was in fine form to deny any chance of an upset from Jemez’ men, denying Nacho Gil on two occasions.
Las Palmas make it seven points from four games after that famed 6-0 mauling at the hands of Girona weeks back, whilst Athletic continue to struggle and sit mid-table, putting pressure on Ziganda for the coming weeks.
