Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 5-2 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday evening in Madrid.
With Madrid out of the title race, attention has seemingly turned to the Champions League, where they face Paris Saint Germain mid-week.
However, if you were watching Saturday’s game at the Santiago Bernabeu – you would have questioned why Los Blancos are fourth in the La Liga table and how they have been struggling.
Ronaldo, who has struggled in the league, set up the lively Lucas Vazquez int he first minute to head home, before the Portuguese international was on the score-sheet himself, hammering home Marcelo’s cross.
German midfielder Toni Kroos then added a third, before Ronaldo headed in Luka Modric’s cross to put the home side 4-0 up.
Jon Bautista did manage to pull a goal back for the visitors, before Ronaldo secured his hat-trick – to silence a number of critics.
Asier Illarramendi volleyed home against his former club, but that was nothing more than a consolation goal for Eusebio Sacristain’s men.
The result keeps Madrid fourth place after Valencia won the derby against Levante 3-1 on Sunday evening, but Zinedine Zidane’s men did move clear of fifth place Villarreal, who lost at home to Abelardo’s ever improving Alaves.
