We look at the Hits & Flops in La Liga’s Round 23, featuring a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo and a dismal start to his Deportivo stint for Clarence Seedorf.
HIT: Cristiano Ronaldo
It has not been the most consistent season for Ronaldo or Real Madrid, but they bounced back with a 5-2 hammering of Real Sociedad on Saturday which included a hat-trick from the reigning Ballon d’Or holder.
The result, which didn’t see them move above Valencia into third, has given many Los Blancos fans hope as they approach Wednesday evening’s Champions League date with Paris Saint Germain.
FLOP: Ousmane Dembele
Making another return this season from injury, French attacker Dembele was much needed as Barca struggled to break a resilient Getafe down on Sunday evening.
But, the former Borussia Dortmund man struggled to adapt in the game, giving the ball away on countless occasions, much to the dismay of the Camp Nou faithful.
HIT: Getafe and Jose Bordalas
Taking a look at the above video will show you just how Getafe masterminded an impressive 0-0 draw with Barcelona, becoming the first team to stop the Catalan side from scoring at home this season.
Bordalas’ men are having a relatively good signing and it was performances from the likes of Bruno and Francisco Portillo which gave them a well earned and deserved point.
FLOP: Clarence Seedorf
It is probably a bit harsh to call the Dutch coach a flop this week, however, much was expected on his debut as boss of Deportivo.
Real Betis proved to tricky though, halted any chance of a glimmer of hope for the Galician side and thus, kept Depor in the relegation places.
