Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is calling on his side’s experience to guide them past Paris Saint Germain.
Madrid host the Ligue 1 leaders on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie, but approach the game as underdogs after a rather inconsistent season so far.
Ronaldo, like Madrid, has struggled to find regular form, bouncing back with a good performance against Real Sociedad at the weekend, where the former Manchester United man scored an impressive hat-trick.
The game between the two sides is the pick of the fixtures in the last-16, whilst the other La Liga sides face off against English opposition, seeing Sevilla face Manchester United and Barcelona face Chelsea.
With the likes of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe posing a threat to Madrid on Wednesday evening, Ronaldo has called on his team-mates to use all of their previous European knowledge to beat Unai Emery’s side.
“We will be playing against a fantastic team with excellent players,” Ronaldo told Goal.com.
“We are Real Madrid and we have shown we have a strong squad with lots of experience and we must call upon that.
“We have to remain focused throughout both games and play well if we are to advance into the next round – we respect PSG but we remain united.
“I always aim to play at my best possible level and whilst sometimes things do not go as well as you like, but from my experience I know I must keep working hard to achieve goals.”
Visitors PSG approach the game in relatively good form, having beaten Toulouse 1-0 at the weekend in a result which extended their lead at the top of the French league to 12 points.
