Spanish Prime Minister and Real Madrid fan Mariano Rajoy has commented on claims linking Neymar with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Brazilian forward spent time in La Liga with Madrid’s main rivals, Barcelona, before sensationally sealing a move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain last summer.
Whilst, he has maintained his impressive goal scoring form with the Parisian side, reports keep on emerging from both French and Spanish media on a potential move to Madrid.
A number of Madrid players and representatives have discussed Neymar’s potential arrival at Los Blancos, but fan Rajoy has said she would not like to see the move happen, praising current attacking trio – Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
“People have doubted Bale, Benzema and Cristiano but people need more perspective,” Rajoy told an interview with Diario AS.
“The truth is I would not like to see Madrid sign Neymar, I do not think he is an upgrade on the players we have that have won a lot for us.
“The Champions League? Logically, PSG should give us a thrashing due to form but anything can happen, and the Champions League is Madrid’s competition.
“This is the same team of Madrid players who have won three of the last four Champions League crowns and I believe we can defeat PSG.”
Madrid face off against PSG on Wednesday evening in the Champions League in a game that will have plenty of talking points, including Neymar’s presence, which many are calling an audition in front of the club’s fans and club president Florentino Perez.
Should the Brazilian eventually make a move to Madrid, fans of Barcelona will no doubt be left angered, taking in the way in which he and his father, Neymar Snr. – conducted themselves regarding his move to the Parc des Princes last summer.
