Espanyol keeper Pau Lopez is waiting for an improved contract offer from the club, before agreeing a move to Real Betis.
Diario AS report that Los Verdiblancos vice president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer has been working behind the scenes to agree a deal for the talented keeper, who spent last season on loan with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Betis see Lopez as a direct replacement for Antonio Adan, who is out of contract in 2019, whilst back up keeper Dani Gimenez is set to leave the club summer when his current deal expires.
Having returned from his loan spell with Spurs, where he failed to make a single Premier League appearance and did not agree a permanent move to remain in England – Lopez started the season in goal at Cornella El Prat under the management of Quique Sanchez Flores.
However, he has since been replaced by the former Real Madrid and AC Milan stopper, settling for a place on the substitutes bench.
Despite Espanyol’s hopes of keeping the Spanish keeper at the club, it now seems Betis have gained advantage and all-but agreed a deal.
Lopez’s departure from Espanyol would leave Flores with Lopez as his number one and Roberto, who would be returning from a loan spell with relegation threatened Malaga.
