A seventh-tier club is not a team that tends to grab people’s attention, especially in Spain, but then CD Almunecar City are not your average side.
Not even a year old, but their potential is already being viewed as endless, particularly when they scored 42 goals in their first seven games and are well on course to earn promotion.
George Jermy is the brains, brawn and bank behind this new club, with the player/coach/owner previously on the books at Norwich City, AFC Bournemouth and Villarreal to name a few.
But what else makes this club so unique?
One of a kind
One of the things you learn at the club at the beginning is that barely any speak Spanish and the accents range across the world.
They are an English-speaking side with players hailing from Canada, Australia, USA and France, thanks to the contacts that Jermy has at his disposal.
Another key element that sets the club apart from the other sides playing in the Andaluza Senior Granada Tercera Division Grupo 1 league is that they are a full-time team, training most days in nearby Torrox, before playing their games at the Estadio Municipal de Deportes.
Therefore, it is not surprising that they are making light work of the seventh tier, with their most recent result, a 9-0 win over CD US Orgiva, an average match for the side, rather than an anomaly.
CDAC going up
Almunecar City are not the perennial lower division type of club and the sky is the limit with Jermy already aiming to jump up two leagues as soon as possible.
With a philosophy that combines their ever-growing youth set-up, Malaga City Academy, with the first-team, this team has all the tools ready to begin their ascent from the football league pyramid and perhaps, one day be playing alongside the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
