Atletico Madrid will host Athletic Bilbao at The Wanda Metropolitano, as Los Rojiblancos look to secure their second place spot in La Liga.
Bilbao will be on a high, following their comfortable 3-1 victory in Russia, against Spartak Moscow. Although, in La Liga, they may have only three wins in 11 games, they are undefeated 11 of their last 12.
Atletico Madrid too were on Europa League duties during the week as they travelled to Denmark, and beat Kobenhaven 4-1.
History in this fixture however, heavily favour the Madrid club as in the last six times these sides have met, Madrid have won on four of those occassions and drawn twice, so it’ll be hard for the Basque club to leave the Spanish capital with anything.
Their task won’t be made any easier by the absence of Aritz Aduriz and Raul Garcia as they are both suspended. Injuries to Muniain, Balenziaga and Undaberrena keep them sidelined.
Their predicted line-up is: Kepa, Lukue, Nunez, Martinez, Saborit, Iturraspe, San José, Susaeta, Benat, De Marcos, Williams
For the Madrid side, Stefan Savic remain injured, whilst Jan Oblak and Diego Costa are both doubts for the game due to illness and a slight knock, respectively.
Their predicted line-up is: Oblak, Vrsaljko, Godin, Hernandez, Felipe Luis, Vitolo, Saul, Gabi, Koke, Griezmann, Costa
Given the historical statistics in this fixture, I cannot see anything other than a Madrid victory.
It would’ve been hard enough for Bilbao with Aduriz and Garcia, but they are both absent and will be a massive miss for them. Madrid are also unbeaten in 13 home La Liga matches and I can’t see that record ending today, I am going for a comfortable 3-0 victory for Madrid, with Griezmann, Costa and Saul on the scoresheet.
