It was very clear early on how Getafe would set up for their clash against Celta. Having held both Leganes and league leaders Barcelona to goalless draws in their previous two games, the Madrid side approached Monday night’s game in much the same way: pressing high and hoping to pounce on their opponents’ mistakes.
Picking up seven points from their previous five games, Jose Bordalas’ men had seen this counterpressing tactic yield valuable points and on this occasion all three thanks to some clinical finishing.
The first piece of notable action came when Celta defender, Sergi Gomez, made a heroic block to deny Molina a clear chance in the box. This was followed by a fantastic save by 22-year old goalkeeper Ruben Blanco who thwarted a curling effort from Fajr on the edge of the box.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 37th minute. A defensive error by Wass allowed Amath Ndiaye to slip the ball into the path of Angel whose deflected shot deceived Ruben Blanco in the Celestes’ goal.
Though the hosts had good chances in the first half, Celta enjoyed the majority of the possession and the opener really came against the run of play.
Lobotka had the chance to equalise just before the break but his bouncing effort was easily saved by Vicente Guaita in the Getafe goal.
Just six minutes after the break Getafe were two up; a real team goal, slotted home by Jorge Molina. Moreno’s penetrating pass found Angel in the box, who squared it to Molina, who scored his sixth goal of the season.
Moments later an outstretched boot by keeper’ Blanco kept the score at 2-0; his reflexes kept the score respectable until five minutes from time when Angel got his second goal of the night. The Spaniard latched onto a lofted ball over the top by Arambarri and fired home on the half volley to ensure that the points went to the boys in dark blue.
