Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Real Madrid’s squad to face Leganes on Wednesday evening in La Liga.
Ronaldo and Keylor Navas have both been handed a rest with the club confirming that they have been left out to ‘avoid fatique and tiredness’.
The decision comes after Madrid’s faltered La Liga campaign has put full concentration on a Champions League assault, having won the competition in the previous two seasons.
The key duo are joined by Toni Kroos, Marcelo and Luka Modric, who are all ruled out with injuries.
German midfielder Kroos is out with a knee problem, whilst Brazilian defender Marcelo and Croatian Modric have hamstring problems.
Meanwhile, Kiko Casilla, Theo Hernandez and Karim Benzema are now expected to be handed starts with the latter being dropped to the bench in last Sunday’s 5-3 win over Real Betis.
Madrid will be looking to move above Valencia into third place with a win over Leganes at the Butarque, taking advantage of their game in hand, which was forced due to their successful Club World Cup campaign in December.
A victory would take them two points above Marcelino’s Los Che, but they still have some ground to make up on second placed Atletico Madrid, who remain unbeaten in 2018.
