Deportivo have scored more than bottom seven, but now is the time for Lucas Perez to shineFebruary 23, 2018
Deportivo La Coruna have scored more than the bottom seven sides in La Liga, but Lucas Perez has been largely criticised for his performances this season.
Remarkably sitting second from bottom in the La Liga standings, Depor have scored more then the seven other teams around them, scoring the same goals as 14th place Athletic Club.
24 goals in their opening 24 games is not a relatively bad statistic, however, the 53 goals conceded is the third highest in the league, leaving it understandable why Clarence Seedorf’s side sit where they do in the league.
Goals have been far and few between for the squad, seeing Romanian striker Florin Andone lead the scoring charts with six goals, whilst Adrian Lopez has five and the rest of the goals are largely spread out, with former Arsenal man Perez sitting on four goals.
Having left the Galician club in 2016 for a spell with Arsenal, Perez demanded a loan back to his former club after failing to settle in the English capital.
His return to Depor was met with open arms and delight form the club’s fans, but after 21 appearances which have featured just four goals – the loyal Branquiazuis fans have been largely critical.
Reports surfaced last month that fans had sprayed messages of their criticism towards the striker, whilst new boss Seedorf has been forced to back the striker since his arrival.
Perez is expected to start on Friday night against Espanyol and the home fans will be hoping he can end a run of three months without a goal, having scored last, against Malaga on 19th November 2017.
