Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez has praised team-mate Karim Benzema after he netted his second goal in three games for the club against Alaves on Saturday afternoon.
The French striker has found form hard to come by this season, thus seeing his future questioned with players such as Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Neymar (Paris Saint Germain) – linked as replacements.
Forced to the substitutes bench last weekend against Real Betis, Benzema came off the bench to net his first goal in a month after fine build-up play from Vazquez.
Having failed to net against Alaves on Saturday, team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo allowed the former Lyon striker to take a penalty and he scored, prompting belief that he could have re-found his form and consistency.
Vazquez, who has been in great form of late, decided to mention the moment to reporters following the game, and he heaped praise on both Madrid forwards.
“CR7 letting Benzema take the penalty? Cristiano showed a lot of companionship with Karim, who deserved his goal. I’m happy for Benzema because he’s a phenomenon, ” he said.
With the win, Zidane’s Madrid find themselves in third place, having caught up with Marcelino’s Valencia, who slipped down to fourth place.
A mid-week visit to Espanyol comes this week, before they face Getafe at home at the weekend, prior to next week’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint Germain.
