Benzema and BBC back in form, claims ZidaneFebruary 26, 2018
Zinedine Zidane has heaped praise on Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo after they all scored in the 4-0 win over Alaves at the weekend.
The home side should have been in front inside the opening 20 minutes as Mateo Kovacic started a counter-attack alongside Theo Hernandez to set up Karim Benzema who lost his footing. Therefore, he was unable to hit the target.
However, the visitors got into the game as Alfonso Pedraza had a chance to make it one nil. If only it wasn’t for Keylor Navas who reacted very quickly down to his left.
It looked like the two teams were going to head into the second half goalless, however, Ronaldo broke the deadlock. Then, in classic Real Madrid style, they scored their second goal three minutes into the second half as Gareth Bale made it 2-0.
As the match was going into the hour mark, Ronaldo made it 3-0 and earned his second of the night as he was set up by Lucas Vazquez. That goal meant the Portuguese star now has 300 La Liga goals – and he has achieved that in 41 games less than Lionel Messi.
The game was hugely encouraging as it was a sight Real Madrid fans have been begging to see. The ‘BBC’ were influencing most of the game with Ronaldo and Bale both scoring and two assists from Benzema.
However, it wasn’t yet over, as in the 89th minute Real Madrid were awarded a penalty as Victor Laguardia bought down Bale. Most assumed Ronaldo would take the penalty as he would earn a hat-trick. But, he shocked the crowd as he let Benzema take it. Benzema then made it 4-0 and sealed a very good victory for Los Blancos.
“I’m happy with Ronaldo’s gesture,” Zidane said after the game.
“It was a moment of team play, which Karim deserved. He had a very good game. When he moves between the lines and links our play up, he’s very good.
“We scored for goals and conceded none. We must keep going like this. We always played with pressure and we need Karim to be in the game and link our play up.
“He did very well and I’m glad. He’ll always be under pressure because he’s Madrid’s No 9 and we’re always going to ask for more.
“BBC have always been here. The only thing we want is that they’re at 100 percent and today they had very good games.”
Real Madrid will now travel to Catalonia to face Espanyol on Tuesday at the RCDE stadium.
