Inter Milan are becoming increasingly concerned about the proposed contract renewal of striker Mauro Icardi, believing he could be set to join Real Madrid.
Numerous reports over the January transfer window saw Madrid linked with a move for Icardi, with some reports claiming the Argentine striker had agreed a contract and undergone a medical at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, no such reports have followed, leaving his future very much in the open; and that has left Inter to become worried.
The Serie A club have offered a new deal to Icardi, but it is now understood that talks over a new deal have slowed down, prompting officials to believe he could be set for a move to Spain, where Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is seemingly happy to pay his £99m release clause.
Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has commented on the concern, saying that their has been a lack of movement in the talks.
“The more we talk about Mauro’s renovation, the more it slows things down,” he told reporters, as cited by Marca.
A potential move for Icardi to Madrid could see Karim Benzema shifted out of the club, having received numerous criticism this season.
Benzema has been in dismal form this season, but has bounced back slightly in recent weeks, scoring two goals in his last three appearances for Los Blancos.
