Ousmane Dembele has opened up in an interview with French magazine Onze Mondial about how he was confident that he would one day play alongside one of the all-time greats, Lionel Messi.
The 20-year-old French star moved from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona for a whopping €147 million.
It came just weeks after Neymar left the Catalan side for Paris Saint-Germain, but injury has kept Dembele from playing an instrumental part in Barcelona’s title run that leaves five points ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid.
A dream come true
Dembele said in the interview, via Daily Express: “I have fought hard to be where I am now and I knew that I would play with Messi one day.”
The Frenchman has only managed 14 games so far this season in all competitions, but is yet to grab his first goal for the club.
His lack of game time has come down to picking up a hamstring injury in September, while further setbacks have seen him miss the majority of his debut campaign at the Nou Camp.
Raring to go
Yet, the Frenchman has seen the positive side to his plagued first campaign in Spain: “I got injured, but I tried to stay calm. I felt it was better for that to have happened at the start of the season than towards the end, when the really big games come.”
Dembele continued his return to full fitness by coming off the bench in Barca’s 1-1 draw to strugglers Las Palmas.
But, he will be relishing his next big match when he could start against Atletico Madrid in a top of the table clash that could be vital in who will win the La Liga title this season.
