Ziganda remains optimistic ahead of Marseille tie

Athletic Club Jose Angel Ziganda has attempted to remain positive ahead of the Europa League tie with Marseille on Thursday evening.

The Basque side travel to France to face the Ligue 1 side at the Velodrome stadium as underdogs, given their inconsistent league form.

Having been eliminated from the Copa del Rey to lowly Formentera prior to the turn of 2018 and sitting outside the European place in La Liga – many of the club’s fans and officials see the Europa League as their only key to success this season.

And, Ziganda has said he is confident of his players chances in the game.

“We understand the importance of every match, being here in the last-16 of the Europa League is a luxury for the whole squad,” he told reporters.

“I am not willing to give up and will not throw this away.”

Ziganda has been handed a massive boost after seeing both Muniain and Balenziaga return from injury.

Former Spanish international Muniain has been ruled out for some time, having suffered knee ligament damage back in September, but his return is now being slowly integrated into training.

It is unlikely that the 24-year-old will take part in Thursday’s game, but defender Balenziaga could feature.

Whilst Marseille are favourites on home soil, the French side have not won in their last four games, losing twice to Paris Saint Germain, once to Braga and most recently, to Nantes in league action at the weekend.
