After being crowned champions of Catalonia on Wednesday following their 4-2 penalty win over Espanyol, manager Ernesto Valverde says he was happy with Denis Suarez’s contribution and expects him back sooner rather than later.
The 24-year-old started the game brightly but was replaced by Cristian Riviera moments before the break due to a problem with his thigh.
Barcelona went on to win the game on penalties thanks to goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen saving Jurado’s tame effort.
The win marks Valverde first trophy of the season and with many on the horizon, Suarez will hope to be back to enjoy more down the line.
His last appearance came against Espanyol in the 1-0 Copa Del Rey loss one month ago and the Spaniard will be left frustrated as Barcelona play Chelsea in their second leg Champions League last 16 tie next Wednesday.
However, despite the setback his coach is pleased with his development and backs him to make a quick recovery.
“I was pleased with how he was playing because he was very committed to the game and what we were trying to do,” Valverde said.
”It is a pity about his injury, it is just a blow to his adductor muscle.
”I don’t think he’ll be out for a long time and he’ll be back with us again shortly.”
Whether the midfielder will be back in time for Barcelona’s trip to Malaga on Saturday is yet to be seen, but they head there with the opportunity of extending their eight point lead at the top of La Liga to 11.
