Having let their goal-lead over Espanyol slip, head coach Eusebio Sacristan urged his Real Sociedad to move on and to make the most of the ten LaLiga matches remaining.
Wilian Jose opened the scoring for La Real by making the most of Espanyol defender Duarte’s slip and firing past Pau Lopez’s near post.
However the deficit was short-lived, Leo Baptistao levelled the scores six minutes after the interval with a close-ranged volley. The Brazilian then crossed for Gerard Moreno, only for the striker to be bought down by the onrushing Moya and having missed the initial spot-kick, the former Villarreal forward put the resulting rebound in.
Defeat means Eusebio has seen his side lose the last ten consecutive away matches and widens the gap between them and the Europa League places to six.
Despite the loss, the former Celta Vigo boss believes his side will come back better than ever and they will forget about this result sooner rather than later.
“There are ten games left and many points,” Eusebio said after the game.
“We must continue to trust that the team continues to be strong, we have not been able to take this opportunity and we should think about the next one.”
Having taken the initiative just before half-time, Eusebio felt that Espanyol’s second goal really took the wind out of the visitors’ sails.
“We have missed a chance if only we had managed to take a little more control , epsecially after gaining the advantage with the first goal. When it seemed that we were starting to get air, the second one has arrived,” he added.
Eusebio is now tasked with the job of preparing his Real Sociedad side for the visit of fellow mid-table outfit Getafe when they come face to face in La Liga on Saturday.
