There was little in the way of action to write home about from the tiny Santo Domingo as Alcorcón and Real Valladolid played out a goalless draw. Without a win in three, los Alfareros were languishing in 17th place while Luis César Sampedro was looking for a timely win to quieten speculation about his future in charge of playoff hopefuls Real Valladolid.
The first half was bereft of chances with the only real threat on Casto Espinosa in the home goal coming from an ambitious lob from a long freekick by Javier Ontiveros but the goal keeper tipped it over the bar with relative ease.
At the other end, the hosts tested Jordi Masip with a lovely effort from Mateo García forcing the Valladolid keeper to stretch out and tip the shot onto the bar.
In the second period, league top-scorer Jaime Mata, the jewel in the Pucela crown, saw his deft flick from close range turned away by Espinsoa and the keeper was called into action a short time later as he dealt with a low bouncing drive from Ontiveros as Mata lurked looking to pounce on any loose handling.
Alcorcón’s best chance of the second half came when substitute Nono delivered a quality cross onto the visitor’s penalty spot and the late-arriving Albert Dorca made contact but couldn’t get his header on target and it sailed wide right of the goal.
Dropped points by Real Valladolid mean they close out the week still in tenth place, four points off the playoff pack while Alcorcón slide down one to 18th thanks to Gimnàstic’s win at Granada.
