Jose Mourinho has said Paul Pogba could feature against Sevilla on Tuesday evening, despite missing Monday’s training session through injury.
The French midfielder has been labelled with criticism this season for some hot and cold performances, whilst the Jose Mourinho’s side have performed well in his absence.
The 2-1 win over Liverpool at the weekend saw Pogba miss out through injury, which he suffered last Friday in training and it was confirmed that he has missed the open training session on Monday morning.
“Pogba did train after you left,” Mourinho told reporters at his pre-match press conference.
“Can he play against Sevilla? I don’t know, we don’t know yet, but he trained a little bit after you left.
“Do I have the ideal team for Champions League success? Not yet, but when a team reaches the last eight anything is possible.
“Now I have only one name in my mind: it is Sevilla. I know that it is very difficult to go through.
“If we go through to the quarter-final draw, it doesn’t matter the opponent – for us or for Sevilla – will always be one of the big names in European football, but we will try.”
Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic did return to training, as did Eric Bailly, formerly of Villarreal, despite suffering a knock in the weekend win.
United will be without Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind, who all missed out through various problems.
The tie is wide open after the first leg which ended 0-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but Sevilla’s defeat to Valencia at the weekend makes Mourinho’s side the slight favourites.
Saturday’s win over Jurgen Klopp’s men came after a superb double from Marcus Rashford and it consolidated United’s grip on second place in the Premier League table.
As for Sevilla, they remain in the hunt for the Champions League places, but the defeat to Valencia now sees them sit 11 points behind.
