Sevilla sporting director Oscar Arias wants is side to push on in both the league and Europe after their successful victory over Manchester United on Tuesday evening.
After a first leg 0-0 draw with Jose Mourinho’s side, Sevilla approached Tuesday’s visit to Old Trafford as underdogs, but a superb performance ensured Vincenzo Montella’s men would be in the draw for the Champions League quarter-finals on Friday morning.
A double from substitute Wissam Ben Yedder put the away side 2-0 up, before a late goal from Romelu Lukaku saw the game end 2-1 to the visitors and end with the La Liga side progressing.
Delight was seen as the players, coaching staff and club’s fans celebrated on the final whistle, and Arias’ delight has been heard too.
The Andalusian side sit fifth in the league standings at present having lost 2-0 to Valencia at the weekend, but Arias believes the players can now push on and not settle for their current success.
“This is a momentous night but from Wednesday, I must focus on our next step and turn my focus elsewhere,” Arias is cited as saying by Marca.
“It is very important that we do not rest on this and for us to start dreaming about doing more, to take encouragement from this but not to settle for it.
“The performance and outcome was magnificent for us and it gives me a lot of happiness for the fans of Sevilla, who will also have great joy.”
Montella’s side return to league action this weekend as they face Leganes away from home.
Sevilla are joined by Real Madrid in the QF draw, whilst Barcelona could also be in the hat, playing their second leg tie with Chelsea on Wednesday night at the Camp Nou.
