Simeone anticipates missing injured full-back duo against Villarreal

Lokomotiv Moscow were decisively beaten 1-5 by visitors Atletico Madrid on Thursday, meaning‎ Los Colchoneros advance to the quarter-finals of the Europa League by 1-8 on aggregate.

Commenting on the performance, in particular of Fernando Torres and the quality of his shot, Simeone said,

“[Torres’] stats are the same as his colleagues,

“[He is] committed, involved, always wanting the good of the group.

“He played very well, he safely converted the penalty and did well for the second goal. His attitude is what has always marked him out.

“That, he will never lose.”

Unfortunately, for Atleti coach Diego Simeone it was not all roses. Juanfran got injured and was substituted at the start of the second half. Then, Filipe Luis had to go off just after the hour mark injured following a block on Eder’s shot.

After the match, Simeone said,

“I have not talked to the doctor

“Hopefully it is as small as possible, for both Filipe and Juanfran.

“We will possibly lose them for Sunday.

“I have the hope of recovering them when LaLiga returns, but I am worried about that.”

Atleti now eagerly anticipates the quarter-final Europa League draw that happens later today. The first and second legs scheduled for April 5th and 12th respectively. But, before Simeone can start strategising about the next round, he has a difficult match this Sunday away at Villarreal.
