Cristhian Stuani has been on fire this season for Girona, scoring 17 goals in 24 La Liga appearances. Although he has two years left on his contract, the likes of Sevilla and Betis are rumoured to be eying a possible summer signing.
The 31-year-old only left Middlesbrough last summer, finalizing a three-year deal at the Catalan club for an undisclosed fee. But, already his performance this season has put him back on the radar of some of the big La Liga clubs.
According to a source from Diario Sport,
“Cristhian’s phone is exploding,
“He is receiving many calls interested in his situation.”
Stuani is turning heads not just for his ability to score goals, but how he does it. Of his shots, 25.4% end up as goals, a frightening statistic for any defence.
He also has the highest number of goals from headers not just in La Liga, but in Europe. The “killer” has converted nine goals from his head this season. Compare that with Premier League statistics, where Harry Kane and Álvaro Morara are both tied for most headed goals with just six .
Girona is currently sitting in 7th place in the table, right in between Sevilla and Betis. Most likely, the summer decision to stay or leave will hinge on the prospect of the Catalan club playing European football next season.
It would be a real blow to the Whites and Reds to lose Stuani’s attacking prowess. It is hard to envision how Girona could maintain the same level of success next season without him.
