Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann will decide his future before the World Cup in Russia this summer.
The French attacker has been in superb form this season, netting an impressive 23 goals in 38 appearances and gaining further plaudits from a number of onlooking clubs.
Having been linked with an exit from the club last summer after interest from both Barca and English club Manchester United; the French international is subject to further speculation as we approach this summer.
Barca have been closely monitoring his situation with some reports claiming a deal in principle has been agreed, whilst the Catalan club have kept the number seven shirt free for his potential arrival.
The former Real Sociedad attacker is currently on international duty with France, preparing for the World Cup this summer and he has taken time to give a clear indication on his future, something he wants sorted before the tournament in Russia.
“My future will be decided before the World Cup,” he told L’Equipe. “I want to go to Russia with a clear head. I think that’s what everyone wants.
“It’s not a question of knowing where I’ll play, which can also be boring, but rather the fact of receiving calls at a delicate time. I told my sister that I’d make my decision about staying in Madrid before leaving for Russia.
“After my statements last summer, it was hard to only think about football. My red card against Girona then made things worse. Only in the national team did I feel comfortable, but Diego Costa gave me a helping hand.
“The Coach gave me more freedom after he came in, taking away many of my responsibilities.”
Barca, who are favourites to sign Griezmann, lead the La Liga table over Atletico Madrid with nine games remaining, making the end to the domestic season in Spain an exciting prospect.
Both sides now have numerous players on international in the next seven days, before they return to face Sevilla (away) and Deportivo (home), respectively.
