Girona FC manager, Pablo Machín, caused a stir two days ago speaking about his future at the club.
Machín, who has been at the Catalan club since they were struggling in Segunda in 2014, has said that if the right offer comes along he would seriously consider it.
Currently, Girona is 7th in the league on 43 points and with nine games still left are just two points away from 6th place Sevilla. So, playing in Europe next season is a real possibility.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Machín spoke to journalists about his future while he was in Navaleno (Castille and León) for the presentation of the 4th edition of the football summer camp which is named after him.
Although Machín is under contract until 2019, the intention of the club is to keep him on further. Girona’s director of football, Quique Cárcel, has publicly said his intention is to meet with Machín’s representatives to extend his contract.
The former Numancia boss has said that this isn’t anything new as he has received many offers over the years to leave and that in any case “as the weeks go on I’ll decide on anything calmly”.
Mundo Deportivo also reports that the club isn’t worried about Machín’s words as they are confident they will reach an understanding to prolong the manager’s contract further than 2019.
