Cristiano Ronaldo believes he should be on the same level as Lionel Messi and Neymar in terms of salary.
The Real Madrid forward does not see it as an issue of money, but believes he deserves the same status as the pair. Following his switch to Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar is now earning €35 million, while Messi’s recent contract renewal has put him on terms of 45 million per year.
And Ronaldo, who has struggled for form for large parts of the season, believes his resurgence in front of goal in 2018 should see him in the same pay packet. The Portugal captain currently earns what seems in comparison a meagre €23 million.
Despite his woes in front of goal for the first half of the season, the Los Blancos forward has now netted an astonishing 21 goals in 11 matches since January. This takes his overall tally in the white jersey of Madrid to 443 goals in 429 appearances.
His recent Ballon d’Or title now moves him to level with Messi on five. The former Manchester United man remains in contention for the Golden Boot and Pichichi awards, continuing to demonstrate his quality as one of the world’s best players and equal to all his peers.
The 33-years-old’s form has not gone unnoticed by his employers, who understandably thought their star player might be on the decline and therefore were unwilling to renew terms. However, they are now more receptive to the idea of a contract renewal due to the player’s upturn in performances.
Ronaldo’s boss Zinedine Zidane remains in full support of Cristiano, suggesting he can’t envision a Real Madrid without the number seven. A new contract of up to€30 million could be offered to Ronaldo, but even that might not appease the frontman’s desired status.
