Real Betis are keen on making a summer move for Colombian defensive midfielder, Wilmar Barrios.
24-year-old Barrios is expected to play a big part in his country’s World Cup campaign this summer in Russia, whilst his club form for Argentine side Boca Juniors has been impressive potential European suitors.
Betis are keen to push for a European place this season and boss Quique Setien is already said to be planning his squad options for next season.
Barrios is said to be in those plans, with Setien being a keen admirer of the Argentine Primera Division winner, having sent club scouts to watch him in action this season.
One stumbling block in Betis’ chase for the youngster is that Boca officials are trying to get him to sign a new and improved contract to remain at the club.
Estadio Deportivo report that Betis are willing to pay anything up-to £15m for his services in the summer, but any potential deal will rely on Barrios’ desire to either stay in Argentina or move abroad.
Barrios’ current deal with Boca is due to expire in June 2020, whilst Transfermarkt have his current value set at £4.5m – a figure which is likely to increase after the World Cup this summer.
