Ajax officials have become concerned after defender Matthijs de Ligt visited Barcelona with friends on a sightseeing tour, report Mundo Deportivo.
The Dutch defender has been on the radar of Barca chiefs for some-time, having had scouts from the Catalan club visit Amsterdam to cast an eye over his performances.
The 18-year-old has made his defensive place in the Ajax team solid, whilst his international presence is also developing, having played over the weekend for Netherlands against England and against Portugal on Tuesday evening.
Having been linked with Barca, the youngster visited the Catalan capital, spending time with friends on a sightseeing tour.
Barcelona, aware of the defender’s presence in the city have been quick to state they have not held a meeting, says the report, claiming that it is simply a short vacation before he returns to domestic duty with Ajax.
Di Ligt, is high on Barca’s list of potential summer signings, prompting speculation Thomas Vermaelen could be allowed to leave the club, whilst Samuel Umtiti’s growing interest from Manchester United could also further prompt a move.
Whilst the trip is probably as claimed; it is understood that Ajax officials have been left bemused by his choice of vacation.
