Celta Vigo centre back Sergi Gomez is near to extending his contract with the Galician club beyond 2019 when his current deal expires.
He has been negotiating with the club for a while and is now close to an agreement, but his extension could see some of his fellow centre backs leave the club.
Gomez has asserted himself as the main defender at the club alongside fellow former Barcelona youth team player Andreu Fontas in the heart of defence.
With a new defender expected to be made a priority in the summer transfer window, the services of Gustavo Cabral and Facundo Roncaglia are not likely to be required with the two players believed to be free to find new clubs despite their contracts not running out just yet.
Cabral and Roncaglia know their days are numbered and are expected to return to Argentina after four and two years respectively at Balaidos, making a combined total of 263 appearances for the club.
The Sky Blues currently sit tenth in La Liga, four points behind Girona in seventh place which is likely to be a final European spot and will continue their push for qualification when they resume La Liga away at Athletic Bilbao on Saturday afternoon
