Espanyol welcomed Alaves to Catalonia and the RCDE Stadium on Sunday morning but neither side produced their best in the 0-0 draw.
Both sides created one real chance of note in a first half in which Alaves just about edged, John Guidetti seeing his free kick kept out by Pau Lopez in the home goal but the best chance fell the way of the hosts.
Gerard Moreno latching onto a high ball to fire a ferocious volley on goal that Pacheco managed to push high into the air before being relieved to see the ball hit the top of the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
Guidetti remained one of the busiest players on the pitch and had a claim for a penalty turned down when Oscar Duarte’s foot was high near the Swede’s head as the defender cleared before Guidetti went close to opening the scoring but was again denied by Pau from close range.
The on-loan Celta man then found the net when Munir squared the ball to him to tap home but his strike partner was ruled offside.
The home side almost sneaked it at the depth but Sergio Garcia was unable to make contact with the ball from two yards out and the ball drifted wide.
