Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Ernesto Valverde had a fall-out during the defeat to Roma after the former called on his boss to put more pressure on the Italian side.
Sport have confirmed that Pique called for Valverde to instruct his team to change their tactics and press the Serie A side, however, the former Athletic Club coach is said to have reacted angrily to the centre-back and told him to stay out his way.
Pique, who has a big influence in the Barca dressing room is said to have been backed by a number of players, who seemed confused with the game plan.
Kostas Manolas scored a late header to complete a remarkable comeback victory for Roma over Barcelona and send the Italians into their first European Cup semi-final in 34 years.
Barcelona, who led 4-1 after the first leg, conceded first when striker Edin Džeko poked home, and went further behind after captain Danielle De Rossi’s converted penalty, before defender Manolas flicked home the decisive goal.
Ernesto Valverde’s team find themselves in the brink of the La Liga crown and will face Sevilla in the final of the Copa del Rey but must surrender their hopes of a treble winning season.
Roma will discover their Champions League semi-final opponents on Sunday when the draw is concluded in Switzerland.
