Atletico Madrid have emerged as front runners in the race to sign Manchester United winger Anthony Martial, according to various reports in English and Spanish press.
Martial is close to sealing an exit from Old Trafford, where he has limited opportunities in Jose Mourinho’s first team.
RMC Sport report that the former Monaco man is keen to move on and has rejected a new and improved contract in recent days, citing his inconsistent starting place at the club as a reason to leave.
Juventus, Paris Saint Germain and Diego Simeone’s Atleti are said to be the front-three clubs with interest.
The 22-year-old joined the Red Devils in a £59m deal in the summer of 2015 and it is expected that United are willing to sell for around the £35/£40m mark.
Funding a Gareth Bale move
Bale, who has been linked with a summer exit has been heavily predicted to move to Old Trafford, with Mourinho a massive admirer of the former Tottenham Hotspur winger.
The Welsh winger has struggled with fitness and form in the past 12 months and has seen his playing time come under heavy pressure from Spanish youngsters Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.
Bale has been put at the forefront of Florentino Perez’ summer sale, and it is now expected that a move to the English club will develop.
Whilst it is now heavily predicted that he will move to Man United – Martial’s future in Manchester is causing any negotiations to be on hold.
Mourinho is keen to sell the French international and use some of the funds made from a sale in a deal for Bale.
