Visitors Real Sociedad won 1-0 against relegation contenders Las Palmas who continues to search for their first win since early February.
The only goal of the match came in the 21st minute, courtesy of a great assist from the centre of the pitch by Asier Ilarremendi. The ball fell to Mikel Oyarzabal who controlled well with his head to place the ball in the centre of the box and get on the end of it with a left-footed strike that went through Chichizola’s legs.
After last week’s 5-0 thumping of Girona, this Saturday’s performance was a much more subdued Real side. Although threatening from the early stages of the match, with several good through passes to Oyarzabal and some tantalizing chances in the second half, they were unable to convert more and make Las Palmas pay for a sloppy defence.
Real Sociedad now sits 10th in the table on 40 points, while Las Palmas languishes in 19th on 21 points and 10 points from safety. With only six La Liga matches left to go in the season, time has already run out for La Union Deportiva, and it seems only a matter of weeks until it is mathematically impossible for them to recover.
