Villarreal face Leganes on Tuesday evening as they continue their pursuit on qualifying for the Europa League.
Tuesday 17th April 2018 / Kick-off at 18:30 UK / Estadio de la Ceramica
The Yellow Submarine bagged a precious point in the six pointer with Sevilla last weekend, but coach Javi Calleja will be concerned after his side let a 2-0 lead slip in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Whilst the result saw them drop two points, it did keep them one point ahead of Vincenzo Montella’s side and kept the likes of Girona and Celta Vigo at bay for another week.
A win on Tuesday evening will be vitally important as Calleja’s side have games against Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia coming up.
Leganes beat Celta Vigo at the weekend and moved 13 points above the relegation zone, all-but confirming their La Liga status for next season.
But, Asier Garitano’s side are one of the worst side’s in the league away from home, having won just three games on the road all season – with their last coming against Malaga on October 15th 2017.
Jaume Costa is suspended for Villarreal. Antonio Rukavina should start at left-back as a result while Dani Raba and Samu Castillejo should keep their places in the side.
Midfielder Gabriel Pires is available following a ban and should start. Miguel Angel Guerrero should continue up top.
Villarreal: Asenjo; Mario, Alvaro, Victor Ruiz, Rukavina; Rodri, Trigueros; Castillejo, Raba, Roberto Soriano; Bacca
Leganes: Cuellar; Zaldua, Bustinza, Siovas, Raul Garcia; Ruben Perez, Eraso; El Zhar, Gabriel, Beauvue; Guerrero
Villarreal to win the game and continue on the path to Europe. Whilst they have lost some silly games this season, their spirit and determination continues to keep them in good stead. 3-1
